Atherleigh Park: Balancing Security & Autonomy
Atherleigh Park's design sought to balance security needs with resident autonomy, ensuring a safe yet comfortable environment.
Enhanced security across multiple wards, including psychiatric intensive care and dementia units, required tailored access control and emergency override capabilities.
Empowering service users with autonomy was key, allowing independent room access via personal devices while upholding safety protocols.
Creating a non-institutional, homely environment, especially in dementia units, aimed to reduce patient anxiety through thoughtful design and consistent locksets.
The Safehinge Solution
Safehinge Primera offers an integrated solution of electronic locksets, Turn/Pull handles, and Oryx lever handles, ensuring highest safety standards while providing service users with autonomy and comfort.
Our 5-Way SOS feature grants staff immediate emergency access, crucial for high-risk situations. This unique override system ensures swift and secure staff entry when needed.
Key fobs provide personalized access for service users, empowering them with room independence while upholding clinical security. This fosters a positive and recovery-focused environment.
Passport integrates seamlessly with access control systems, enabling real-time monitoring and effortless remote management through simple updates.
Oryx Lever Handles and Turn/Pull Handles: Designed for ease of use and accessibility, especially in dementia care, these handles meet specific user needs for comfort and safety.
The Impact
Safehinge Primera’s products contributed significantly to creating a secure, empowering, and comfortable environment at Atherleigh Park.
Key results included:
Improved Emergency Access: With the 5-way SOS system in Passport smart locksets, staff now have two-second emergency access in all patient rooms, significantly improving response time during emergencies and enhancing overall safety for staff and service users alike.
Increased Autonomy for Service Users: By granting residents control over their space with key fobs, the Trust observed a noticeable improvement in resident autonomy and dignity. This empowerment aligns with the Trust’s mission to foster a supportive environment that aids in recovery and rehabilitation.
Consistency and Comfort: With ergonomic, homelike handles in place, Atherleigh Park achieved a non-institutional aesthetic that helps reduce anxiety for dementia patients. The consistent use of Passport smart locksets across the wards provided a unified, seamless experience supporting patient comfort and staff efficiency.
